I am now taking bookings for my classes that will be starting in January 2018.

The small, friendly classes are held at Eridge Village Hall, on the Kent / East Sussex border, and are for beginners and those with some upholstery experience.

Students bring along their own projects, which they can work on at their own pace, under my guidance.  All materials and stuffings can be purchased from me at class, as they are required.  There are plenty of tools to borrow and a selection for sale.

The classes:

Tuesday Evenings (2 hours) – 19.30 to 21.30

9th Jan to 27th Mar (half term week commencing 12th Feb) 11 week  course – £137.50

Thursday Mornings (3 hours) – 10.00 to 13.00

11th Jan to 29th Mar (half term week commencing 12th Feb) 11 week course – £206.25

All Day Workshops:

These are very productive days.  They are great as a taster day to see what upholstery is all about.  Equally they are a good opportunity to complete a small project or to crack on with a larger one.

They run from 10am to 4pm and cost £40 for the day.

The next all day Workshops will be on Friday 19th January, Friday 2nd & 23rd February, Friday 16th March, Wednesday 2nd & 23rd May, Wednesday 6th & 27th June and Wednesday 11th July 2018.

To book any of these classes, either call me on 01892 668270 or email me at contact@carolineranceupholstery.co.uk

One to One Courses:

Have you recently moved house or are you thinking of redecorating your existing home ?  Why not save yourself a lot of money and learn how to make your own soft furnishings ?

I am now offering one to one tuition in making curtains, roman blinds and simple upholstery projects.  Alternatively, if you and a friend  wish to learn alongside each other, I can accommodate two students on an upholstery course. Courses can be tailor made to your specific requirements.

Rather than making samples to take home, which is what many courses offer, my aim is for my students to make a blind or a pair of curtains for an actual window. You can either bring along your measurements and fabric, if you are confident to do this part yourself or for an additional fee of £30 we can begin with a site visit to your home, so that I can take you through how to measure up your windows and calculate fabric quantities.  We can discuss what you want to cover in the course and then once you have had a chance to choose and purchase some fabric we can set a date for the rest of your tuition.

Courses take place from my home in Boars Head (on the A26 between Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough), during the week in term time, between 10am and 3pm.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The cost of the courses are £125 per day for one to one tuition, or if there are two of you doing an upholstery course the cost is £95 per person per day.

The Courses:

Learn to Make Your Own Roman Blinds

I’m a big fan of roman blinds. They are very versatile, looking good in either contemporary settings or more traditional surroundings. They use the minimum amount of fabric and are relatively easy to make – if you know how ! I can provide lining fabric and all the items required to hang and operate a roman blind, so that once we have finished making the blind, it is ready for you to take away and hang in your home.

Learn to Make Lined Curtains with Standard Gathers or Pencil Pleat Headings

This course aims to be an introduction to simple curtain making.  Again, by the end of this course you will have a pair of curtains ready to hang when you get home.

Learn How to Re-upholster a Drop-in Seat or Pin Cushion Seat

If you have looked at my website or browsed through my blog, you will have realised that I love to give old chairs a lease of new life.  If you are interested in having a go at doing the same, the best way to start is with the simplest of chairs, either a drop in seat (where the seat can be popped out and removed from the frame – common in a lot of old dining chairs), or with what is known as a pin cushion seat, where a wooden framed chair has a simple lightly padded seat.

If you have something like this at home, bring it along.  If not, have a look around your local junk shop, or auction.  Otherwise I normally have  a selection of chairs waiting for a facelift.

This course will give you an introduction to upholstery and how to use some of the basic tools and techniques.

‘Just a quick note to thank you so much for Friday’s course.  I really enjoyed learning something new and am delighted with how the blind turned out.  I still can’t believe we produced a finished blind at the first attempt.  You really are an excellent teacher!

Thank you again for the delicious lunch and for welcoming me into your lovely home.  I shall be in touch again a little later this year about the curtain making course’  Jane.
